Beauty: You Ask
Q.Do I need to “rinse and repeat” as some shampoos recommend? — Marie-Eve Poulin, Sydney, N.S., who received February’s Mexx prize
A.It depends on how dirty your hair is, says New York trichologist Dr. David H. Kingsley, but most shampoos clean hair sufficiently with one application. If your hair has been exposed to excessive perspiration, pollution, styling product, dust or dirt, or if you’re shampooing less than twice a week, you may want to try an initial application of shampoo, followed by a rinse and a second, more thorough wash. The first shampoo will break down your hair’s surface dirt and the second wash will leave you with shiny, clean locks.
